5 days Uganda: Gorilla galore

5 days Uganda: Gorilla galore

Did you know that mountain gorillas hum and fart when eating, love to cuddle and are said to be scared of water, caterpillars and chameleons? If you plan to come to Uganda with the sole goal of meeting with these sturdy creatures, this might not come as a surprise.

Still you might discover some unknown traits while studying your favourite animals for one full hour in the lush Bwindi Impenetrable Forest – or four if you decide to visit one of the less habituated groups that still need to get used to people. Observe them grooming each other, humming and singing. Feel your smiles getting bigger while they munch on twigs, fart, play and cuddle with the little ones. Feeling like your regular Tarzan, tempted to stay? Then be warned: the silverback male weighs 180 kilogrammes, is six times stronger than you AND doesn’t like strangers. So better keep your distance, enjoy the moment and return home with memories to cherish forever.

Experience the warm hospitality of the Ugandan people and be amazed by the cultural encounters with the different indigenous tribes. With us, you’ll experience it all!

The drive from the city of Entebbe (or Kampala) to the stunning wilderness of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park takes approximately nine hours. But don’t worry, the beautiful landscape, forests and mountains and the chance of seeing wildlife along the way make this a fascinating road trip. And of course, the perspective of going on a trek to see the endangered mountain gorillas the next day makes it definitely worth your while!

The Rushaga sector in the southern part of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is home to eight gorilla families, some of which are still unaccustomed to human presence. During a mountain gorilla trekking tour, you can hike along challenging trails, spending either an hour with the habituated groups or, at an extra cost, up to four hours observing the less familiar giants in their natural habitat. This once-in-a-lifetime experience, where you can watch the gorillas eat, play, and be guarded by the silverback, will leave you in awe and may even bring tears of joy to your eyes. Please note that gorilla tracking is conducted in groups of up to 8 people, requires proper hiking shoes, and typically lasts 2–4 hours.
